Outreach - Occultation Of The Planet Venus by the Moon - Friday 9th October 2015
Preview Notes:
On Friday 9th October, Astronomy Benalla members will be setting up telescopes at the Benalla Airport car park at 5-
00am to view the occultation of the planet Venus by the Moon, This is due to occur from about 5:30am through to
6:48am.
The planet Venus will disappear behind the Moon for about 1hr 14 mins. The Sun will be rising over the horizon as the
planet reappears.
The Moon will be like a thin shaped banana and Venus slightly rounded.
Providing the weather is clear, we should have no trouble viewing this very seldom seen apparition.
The public are welcome to share this occasion with us. Binoculars will also be suitable to view this event; however care
should be taken once the Sun rises in not accidently pointing at the Sun by - for example - keeping it behind the
shadow of a building or vehicle.
